The Commercial Pilot Licence is required to become a professional pilot and eligible for hiring by airlines or other air operators. It allows you to be paid for flying. The training focuses on deepening your aircraft handling skills to the level required in the respective CPL skill test, bringing your flight planning skills to a higher level and in general on taking into account commercial considerations with the right amount of efficiency without compromising safety. At minimum five hours are accomplished on larger and more performant aircraft — at Aeropole we use the twin-engine DA42NG for that, for which reason you need to either hold the MEP class rating already or do the MEP class rating training at Aeropole, in which case the skill tests for both can be combined.
The CPL licence only requires 15 hours of actual flight training on aircraft, if you already hold the IR rating or a certificate of completion of the Basic Instrument Module (10 h); if not, the BIM module is performed as part of your CPL course, making it into a 25-hour course.
Prerequisites for the course are: PPL(A) and 150 h of total flight experience on aeroplanes as well as having at least started the respective theory course (CPL or ATPL). Note however that before applying for the CPL licence, you need to have a total of 200 hours, of which at minimum 100 PIC hours (maximum 5 of these can be in a simulator used in the BIM module or IR training). Before the skill test you need to have completed all CAA theory exams. See all prerequisites in detail here.
