We intend to organise the Instrument Rating Instructor course (for Aeroplanes) in accordance with Part-FCL at our HQ in Vantaa, Finland, this summer 2024. (If you are already a Flight Instructor, your licence issuing authority may use the abbreviation ”FI-IR”, instead of ”IRI”, to designate the privileges.) Get in touch if you are interested to make sure you don’t miss the train–such instructor courses are not scheduled every year!
Theoretical Training
The theoretical training consists of
- 15 h of teaching and learning studies
- 10 h of technical training
If you already are an FI(A) holder, you are exempted from the 15-hour Teaching and Learning module. Others will need either to attend it or produce a certificate of having completed the same in an another ATO.
Exceptionally, this is organised as on-site classroom training only, i.e. you cannot attend this training remotely via a video link.
Practical Flight Training
The practical flight training consists of
- 10 h of flights on DA40 and/or FNPT II mimicking the DA42.
FI(A) holders get credit for five (5) of the above hours, leaving only five (5) hours to be flown.
Privileges and Conditions in Short
The privileges of FIs include: to conduct flight instruction for the issue, revalidation or renewal of a BIR or an IR for aeroplanes, provided that the FI meets the following conditions:
(1) they have completed as student pilots the IRI training course and have passed an assessment of competence for the IRI certificate;
(3) if during an approved training course at an ATO, the FI is providing training in FSTDs or supervising SPIC training flights that take place under IFR, the FI shall have completed at least 50 hours of flight time under IFR after the issuance of the BIR or the IR, of which a maximum of 10 hours may be instrument ground time in an FFS, an FTD 2/3 or an FNPT II;
(4) if the FI is providing training in an aircraft, the FI shall have completed at least 200 hours of flight time under IFR, of which up to 50 hours may be instrument ground time in an FFS, an FTD 2/3 or an FNPT II.
Applicants for an IRI certificate, who are not FI holders, shall,
- to provide training in FSTDs during an approved training course at an ATO, have completed at least 200 hours of flight time under IFR after the issuance of the BIR or the IR, of which at least 50 hours shall be in aeroplanes;
- to provide training in an aeroplane, have completed at least 800 hours of flight time under IFR, of which at least 400 hours shall be in aeroplanes.
